KHUSH-HAAL SINDH: EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT)

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Emergency Medical Technician/Associate is a member of the Ambulance crew of the Emergency Medical Services of the SIEHS. The EMT responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility. The EMT/A is required to assist the EMO (Emergency Medical Officer) in providing care of the patient being attended to or transported in the Ambulance. Under normal circumstance, the EMT follows the EMO’s instructions to perform their duties. In certain conditions especially in the absence of an MO, the EMT will be the team leader of the Ambulance and attend to the patient’s care.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:

  • Prepares himself completely for performing active duty by completing training with dedication whenever it is arranged by the organization.
  • Takes over the ambulance after duly completing the handing over and taking over procedure at the start of each shift.
  • Performs the duties with honesty and dedication in keeping with the Foundation policies.
  • Administer medicines and perform procedures required for taking care of the patients being treated/ transported under the supervision and tele-instructions of MO.
  • Documents all patient care, assessments, BLS skills and all service reports in a timely fashion. Documentation shall be legible and accurate.
  • Shall transfer the patient from the scene of accident or home to the ambulance and after arriving at the hospital transfer to the ER facility of the hospital. He will be assisted in this activity by the driver.
  • At the end of each shift the EMT is responsible to hand over the ambulance to the staff of next shift or the station coordinator in a proper manner and sign the handing over sheet.
  • They are also responsible to accurately maintain a record of all the medicines/ consumables used during the shift and provide the list to the station coordinator.
  • In the absence of the patient’s ability to choose a Hospital to go to, the EMT would need to make the decision.
  • In case an emergency (life threatening/serious) call comes at the end of the shift change, the EMT must immediately attend to call even it means extra time upon the directive of the Control & Command Center.
  • EMT needs to be update the record electronically

WORK HOURS:

  • SIEHS is working on 3 shifts for the Ambulance crew.
  • Except in cases of emergency, the Ambulances are moved from key points to proceed to the station 15 minutes before end of each shift in order to facilitate in time handing over-taking over by the EMTs.
  • Late coming is not allowed as it leads to interruptions in running the EMS efficiently and smoothly

Qualification:  General Nursing Diploma/ BSc. Nursing

Training/Courses (preferred): Academy Training for EMTs

Experience: At least 6 months as Resident Nurse

Driving License: PNC

Age Requirement: Min. 20 years
