AUTOMOTIVE - ELECTRICIAN

General Purpose

The Auto Electrician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic systems of ambulances and fleet vehicles, including wiring, batteries, lighting, sirens, and onboard medical/communication equipment power circuits, to keep the fleet safe and mission ready.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair faults in vehicle wiring harnesses, starter motors, alternators, and batteries.
• Install, troubleshoot, and maintain emergency lighting, sirens, and communication/tracking equipment wiring.
• Carry out routine electrical checks during preventive maintenance visits.
• Test and replace faulty sensors, relays, fuses, and control modules.
• Diagnose air-conditioning electrical faults in coordination with the AC Technician.
• Maintain accurate records of electrical repairs, parts consumption, and job cards.
• Ensure all electrical repairs comply with vehicle safety standards before sign-off.
• Respond to field breakdown calls involving electrical faults as part of the mobile workshop team.

Skills & Competencies

• Sound knowledge of 12V/24V automotive electrical systems.
• Proficiency with multimeters, circuit testers, and auto-electrical diagnostic tools.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams.
• Good troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work in shifts and respond to emergency breakdown calls.

Working Conditions

• Workshop and field environment; exposure to vehicle electrical systems and moving parts.
• May require working in confined spaces (under dash, engine bay).
• On-call availability for emergency breakdowns, including nights and holidays.

Qualification: Matriculation with 3 S Workshop Certification / diploma in Auto-Electrical or Electrical Technology preferred.

Experience: – Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in automotive electrical repair, preferably on fleet or commercial vehicles.
