FABRICATOR

General Purpose

The Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication, repair, and modification of ambulance body structures, cabinets, stretcher trays, drawers, and related metal work, ensuring vehicles remain structurally sound and fit for emergency service.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate and repair body panels, cabinets, and storage compartments of ambulances.
• Repair and align stretcher trays, drawers, door locks, and related fittings.
• Carry out welding, cutting, and metal shaping work required for vehicle body repairs.
• Inspect vehicle bodies for corrosion, damage, or wear and undertake necessary repairs.
• Fabricate custom brackets, mounts, and fittings for medical equipment installation.
• Coordinate with Mechanic and Electrician teams on combined repair jobs.
• Maintain accurate job cards and material usage records.
• Ensure fabrication work meets safety and quality standards before vehicle release.
• Support mobile workshop / field fabrication repairs as required.

Skills & Competencies

• Skilled in arc/gas welding, cutting, and metal-forming techniques.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and take accurate measurements.
• Good working knowledge of sheet metal, aluminum, and related materials.
• Attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Willingness to work in shifts and respond to emergency breakdown calls.

Working Conditions

• Workshop and field environment; exposure to welding fumes, noise, and sharp metal edges.
• May require lifting heavy sheets/parts and working in awkward positions.
• On-call availability for emergency breakdowns, including nights and holidays.

Qualification: Matriculation with 3 S Workshop Certification / trade certification in Sheet Metal, Welding, or Fabrication Technology preferred.

Experience: – Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in vehicle body fabrication or sheet metal work.
