Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurates the modernized emergency hub, transforming a previously non-operational municipal site into a 24/7 emergency ambulance operational base.
Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS-1122), the Government of Sindh’s premier emergency healthcare organization, today formally inaugurated its newly relocated Emergency Services Operational Base in Orangi Town, Karachi West District—a testament to collaborative work between SIEHS & KMC.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by chief guest Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Mayor of Karachi, alongside Brig. Tarique Quadir Lakhiar (R), CEO – SIEHS, community leaders, local stakeholders, and members of the media.
The project, executed in coordination with the Government of Sindh, marks a significant operational upgrade for one of Karachi’s most populous sub-districts. Previously operating from Kati Pahari, the station has now been relocated to a government-allocated site closer to Banaras. This strategic shift will enable 1122 ambulances and emergency medical teams to navigate Orangi Town’s congested routes more efficiently and reach residents in distress significantly faster.
Beyond its logistical advantages, the new site carries deep symbolic meaning. The facility previously had remained non-operational for several decades. Through rapid infrastructure development and complete facility modernization, SIEHS-1122 has transformed the site into a fully equipped emergency response hub operating within its ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management framework, bringing free, 24/7 pre-hospital care closer to the residents of Orangi Town and surrounding communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said:
“The transformation of this previously non-operational municipal facility into a modern emergency healthcare hub reflects our shared commitment to putting public assets back into the service of the people. Karachi is a city of immense scale and complexity, and strengthening emergency response within its communities is critical to protecting lives. Through coordinated efforts between the Government of Sindh, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and SIEHS-1122, we are working to ensure that quality, timely, and dignified emergency care reaches every citizen, regardless of where they live.”
Brig. Tarique Quadir Lakhiar (R), CEO of SIEHS, added:
“This facility represents more than the relocation of an operational base. It reflects a well-thought-out plan and effort to bring emergency healthcare closer to the people and to transform an underutilized public space into a place of service, readiness, and hope. Its strategic location will allow our teams to respond more effectively across Orangi Town and Karachi West. We are grateful to the Government of Sindh, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab for enabling us to strengthen our presence and serve this community with greater speed, efficiency, and compassion.”
This initiative reflects the mutual understanding between KMC & SIEHS of Karachi’s needs and emergency response capabilities, as well as our joint effort to enhance them to the highest viable level. Today’s event is one of many such initiatives in the offing.
With the successful launch of the relocated station, SIEHS-1122 continues to strengthen its provincial emergency healthcare network, which currently operates a fleet of more than 627 emergency response vehicles, providing free, round-the-clock pre-hospital care across all 30 districts of Sindh.
