SIEHS-1122 and University of Sindh Join Forces to Extend Lifesaving Reach to Sindh's Coastal Communities

SUJAWAL: The Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS) and the University of Sindh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly operate an $8 \times 22$-foot, high-powered catamaran. The vessel, equipped with a heavy-duty engine, will support emergency rescue operations along the coastal creeks of the Sujawal district. Signed during a ceremony in Sujawal, the MoU also establishes a comprehensive framework for marine research, academic surveys, and data collection across the province.

The agreement was officially signed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Mohammad Marri on behalf of the University of Sindh, and by Chief Executive Officer Brigadier Tarique Qadir Lakhair on behalf of SIEHS 1122. Senior officials from both institutions attended the ceremony.

The vessel’s dual designation as both a lifesaving asset and a research tool reflects the broader strategic intent of the partnership. It will be actively deployed to reach remote coastal communities living in the creeks and estuarine waterways of the Sujawal district during natural disasters. Simultaneously, it will support marine research activities and academic field surveys across the province.

“SIEHS 1122 has been systematically building its pre-hospital emergency care ecosystem beyond urban centres. Coastal and remote communities deserve the same quality of emergency response as any other part of the province. This vessel extends our operational reach where it is needed most.”

— Brigadier Tarique Qadir Lakhair SI(M), Chief Executive Officer, SIEHS 1122

The signing ceremony was well-attended by senior leadership and dignitaries from both institutions, including PPP MNA and Chairman of the Sujawal PMDC Syed Ayaz Ali Shah Sheerazi, University of Sindh Thatta Campus Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Misbah Bibi Qureshi, Sujawal Deputy Commissioner Zahid Ali Rind, and Project Director of Marine Research (Sujawal) Prof. Dr. Mukhtiar Ahmed Mahar. Other notable attendees included Director of the ORIC Prof. Dr. Farhat Naureen, SIEHS Director Lutuf Ullah, Regional Manager Wazeer Ahmed Zaur, and Anwar Almani.

SIEHS 1122 operates as a Section 42 not-for-profit organisation under the Health Department of the Government of Sindh, providing pre-hospital emergency care and integrated health services across the province. This catamaran partnership with the University of Sindh marks a significant expansion of SIEHS’s emergency response capacity into Pakistan’s coastal geography.
